What Is Coronavirus? You all have heard about coronavirus – but what exactly is it? The new coronavirus is named SARS-CoV-2 which causes the disease called COVID-19. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses. They get their name from the crown-like spikes that can be seen on their surface with electron microscopy. This group of viruses were first identified in the 1960s and they can cause a spectrum of disease, from very mild symptoms (like a common cold), to severe disease in some cases. Making the Jump There are many coronaviruses that can infect animals and some that can infect humans. Rarely, one of the viruses infecting animals may evolve to infect humans and spread between them. A disease that can be passed from animals to humans is called a zoonotic disease. This is what has happened in the current outbreak- the virus which previously existed just in animals was transmitted to a human, becoming a zoonosis. There are other examples of coronavirus...

Structure of Bacteriophage                              The shape and size of bacteriophage may vary from species to species. Some phages are spherical, some like comma-shaped while majority of them are tadpole like structure. The T-even (T2, T4 and T6) phages (bacteriophage) are tadpole-shaped with polyhedral head, a short neck, collar and straight tail. The head is bi-pyramidal hexagonal in shape. The contents of head are enclosed by a capsid which is about 35 degree A thick. The capsid is made up of about 2000 capsomeres and each protein sub-unit has high molecular weight of about 80000. The head encloses the double stranded greatly folded DNA, which contains more than 75 genes. The tail is a hollow structure that is enclosed by a spring like contractile sheath. The tail rests on a hexagonal end plate that bears six tail fibers. ...

There is a lot of false information around. Followings are the some facts about coronavirus (COVID-19) ; ·         People of all ages CAN be infected by the coronavirus. Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease) appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus. ·         Cold weather and snow CANNOT kill the coronavirus. ·           The coronavirus CAN be transmitted in areas with hot and humid climates ·         The coronavirus CANNOT be transmitted through mosquito bites. ·         There is NO evidence that companion animals/pets such as dogs or cats can transmit the coronavirus. ·         Taking a hot bath DOES NOT prevent the coronavirus ·    ...
Microbiology : study of microorganisms, or microbes, a  diverse  group of generally minute, simple life-forms that include  bacteria ,  archaea ,  algae ,  fungi ,  protozoa , and  viruses . The field is concerned with the structure, function, and  classification  of such organisms and with ways of both exploiting and controlling their activities.
